The CertTEC Basic Composites certifications are accredited by the International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC) to meet ISO 17024 guidelines.

Information about the Certification

The CertTEC Basic Composites certification is a comprehensive assessment of technician skills and knowledge focused on composite history, fiber reinforcements, matrix systems, and processes related to basic composite fabrication, inspection, damage assessment and repair using methods common to industry.  

Applicants will be required to complete a written examination and demonstrate the ability to properly apply composites construction techniques using appropriate materials and tooling to produce composite components, perform material evaluation techniques and perform composite repairs as directed by a qualified CertTEC examiner.

How Do I Prepare for the Test?

A Prep Course is offered for the Basic Composites exam.  In order to have access to the Prep Course, payment has to be made the Certification exam.

The CertTEC Basic Composites Prep Course is an online, self-paced preparatory program that focuses on the following subject areas: Characteristics of Composites Materials; Fabrication Methods; Testing, Inspection, & Repair; and Health & Safety. Students are provided a set of instructional materials that include an introductory overview and lessons for each of the four topics included in the written examination.

Each lesson includes (1) a list of included competencies, (2) a Powerpoint Presentation, (3) a document with reading assignments and key points and (4) a quiz that provides an immediate score and feedback on questions missed.  The required passing score is 80% or greater and the quiz can be taken multiple times.

Prep Course Requirements

There are no special requirements for this course. However, it is recommended that students review their skills using the materials contained in the Resource Module and related information from other sources that may apply to individual student needs. Grading Policy

This course is organized into four topics that must be completed in the order in which they are offered. Each lesson includes a quiz requiring a score of 80% or higher to pass, with unlimited attempts allowed. Once all lessons are completed, the candidate is qualified to sit for the CertTEC® Basic Composites Certification Examination.  A Pre-test is available prior to taking the written portion of the certification.  The Pre-test is included in the exam cost.  The Pre-test can be taken anywhere there is internet access, it does not require a Proctor.
